…with a Bit of Grunge
COUPLES SESSION: WEST BOTTOMS, KANSAS CITY
The weather had just released Kansas City from its frigid grasp when I met Batoul and Usman at the West Bottoms for their engagement photoshoot. Snow still covered shaded sidewalks and uncared-for corners, and in the places where melt did occur, it gave way to a muck that couldn’t have been comfortable in her clear, peep-toed heels.
Because the session was on a Saturday, customers of the West Bottom’s shopping district milled about on sidewalks and in streets, but I ushered the couple away from other humans, and we landed in the area known for Kansas City’s best haunted houses.
My instructions for this photo session were quite simple: artsy, a bit sexy, with no greenery or trees, and I think the area we selected fit the bill with its historic buildings, ornate doors, and brick paths.
As we walked around the area, they settled into each other in a way that was beautiful to photograph. They cuddled, danced, and played — just enjoying each other and the city.
We might have held up traffic more than a few times for a couple of these shots, but I think it was kinda worth it.
