Do You Want a Senior Photoshoot at the Nelson-Atkins Museum?

High School Seniors Love this Treasured Kansas City Location

With its colossal columns, majestic staircase, and sculptures that highlight a charming landscape, Kansas City's Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art is one of the most sought-after portrait locations in the metro.

As a senior photographer, every season, high school seniors ask me to photograph their session at this jewel of the city, and it's always been a favorite of mine because the museum offers so much variety.

The main building's Greek columns are a beautiful nod to the art of antiquity. It also gives seniors an optimal place for standing and leaning portraits while incorporating the architectural achievements of Thomas and William Wight, and the steps and benches throughout the space are perfect for sitting poses.

Even Nelson Atkins' expansive lawn showcases modern art, contemporary art, and interactive pieces that seniors can incorporate into their photography sessions. Every side of the Nelson-Atkins offers a dazzling background for photographs.

I love the contrast between the original architecture and the Bloch Building and how it gently reflects the blue sky or warms into a pale gold from the setting sun.

Styling for the Nelson Atkins

Because a playful yet manicured lawn is set against elegant architecture, formal or casual attire will work well for a senior photo session. Bring both if the Nelson-Atkins is the only location where you'll be photographed.

Pull neutrals like ivories, khakis, and blues if you want to work within the tones of the setting. But if you're looking to pop, pick a vibrant red to stand out.
