A Little Miracle

A Little Miracle | OVERLAND PARK NEWBORN PHOTOGRAPHER

My high school genetics class was really a course in the miraculous. Ten fingers, ten toes. Miracle. Eyes that blink and see. Miracle. A heart that pumps blood. Miracle.

Each and every life is nothing short of a genetic marvel.

But for some families, the miracle of life is even more of a wonder.

After suffering years of infertility, Thomas’ parents reached out to a local OBGYN and began a journey with IVF. Six months later, they were blessed with a redheaded baby girl that was nothing short of a dream come true.

But the family knew they wanted to add one more member, so they reached out to the doc again. This time, however, the process was rife with hardship and loss.

Finally, they were down to their last embryo.

Shortly after implantation, they heard a heartbeat. But like anyone who has gone through loss before, their excitement was tempered with caution. Mom describes the beginning of the pregnancy as grim and extremely emotional.

“This pregnancy pushed me to limits that I had no idea that I could endure. I can look back at this pregnancy and realize how lucky I am to have Thomas here today,” she said.

Induced at 36 weeks due to an umbilical cord issue, Thomas is now thriving and strong and a welcome gift to the family that waited so long to meet him.
